Kolkata, West Bengal: Tragic thunderstorm that occurred on Monday left nine dead and others severely injured, as per the rescue forces investigation reports. As per the news story covered by TOI, at least nine people got killed by the thunderstorm that took place on Monday. There were several accident cases due to yesterday’s thunderstorm in the main districts of West Bengal. In a tragic turn of events, Khushbu Yadav, a twelve-year-old girl got electrocuted by live wire while returning to her home after classes.
In another death case reported from the Barrackpore region of Kolkata, Kaushik Dhali a young boy from the Ranaghat region died in Mangal Pandey Park of Barrackpore due to a tree branch that fell on him during the Monday thunderstorm. Another nineteen years girl in the same park got severely injured during the tragic thunderstorm that occurred yesterday. As per the latest updates by IMD and weather reports, there are predictions of heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, and lightning for the coming five to six days. So it is clearly advised that one should take proper safety measures and guidelines while going anywhere these couple of days. “Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and gusty winds along with lightning likely to continuously occur for the coming days” IMD mentioned. On 18 May 2023, South Bengal is expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning along with gusty winds and wind speeds reaching up to 40- 50 Kmph.
While West Bengal experiences thunderstorms several times during monsoon season but Monday’s thunderstorm was quite devastating and surprising to the local residents. West Bengal authorities have confirmed the death of nine-person due to yesterday’s thunderstorm. Moreover, local authorities of West Bengal have urged the citizens to stay vigilant and follow the safety guidelines during such adverse weather conditions.
